There is much for you to explore in Kihei! Beyond the breathtaking six miles of beaches here on the southwest end of Maui, you will find adventures around every bend. From a visit to the Maui Brewing Company to the Humpback Whale Sanctuary, then top it off with an unforgettable Luau.

Beaches

Should you want to spend all your time here on the beach, there are plenty of opportunities to do so. With six miles of beaches, you will not soon run out of new areas to explore. Kama’ole Beach Park offers you one and a half miles of sandy beaches, with full facilities. Family-friendly, bring your boogie boards and snorkeling gear for a full day of activities here. Have a picnic or barbeque at Cove Park, play some volleyball, or take surfing lessons. You will also find basketball courts, baseball fields, tennis courts, a playground, and an outdoor roller rink and skate park! You may need to spend more than one day here, packing in all of the activities.

Shopping

For more shopping experiences you have a large range of vendors and venues along the six miles of shore. The Shops at Wailea is the most southern shopping mall along the coastline. Featuring plenty of boutiques, restaurants, and art galleries for you to explore. Kamaole shopping center, Rainbow Mall, and Dolphin Shopping Plaza are about in the middle of the Kihei area. A little more north you can find Kukui Shopping Mall, a basic shopping center for goods and eateries. Even further north you will find another cluster of shops, shopping strip malls, and centers. From fruit stands, dive shops, surf shops, and tattoo parlors to golf shops, smoke shops, boutiques, and gift shops, Kihei shopping will not disappoint you.

Restaurants

Keep your strength up with fabulous eateries and restaurants. Kihei provides you with every taste and fare you could crave. Do you wish to dine seaside, in the open air? Or maybe you prefer a casual bistro? Are you in the mood for Latin food, Asain, or Thai? Maybe you want Hawaiian dining, Italian, or even Mexican? Should you prefer seafood, sushi, or barbeque, Kihei has everything you could have a taste for.

Water Sports and Entertainment

One of the must-do activities in Kihei is the snorkel tour of the Molokini Crater. The Molokini Crater is a sunken Hawaiian Volcano. This protected marine reserve provides you with crystal clear waters, over 250 species of tropical fish, and a bright coral reef as you explore. This is the most popular snorkeling tour in all of Maui.’

Surf lessons are quite popular on Maui. Cove Park is open to the public and is one place you can get your surfing lessons in. If stand up paddleboarding is on your list of to-dos, make sure you take a lesson or two before renting and trying it on your own.

Whatever you do, don’t forget to take a humpback whale watching tour if you come December through April. This is when the whales migrate to these waters from the colder Alaskan waters for the winter. These creatures are stunning, you will want to catch sight of them if you can.

Entertainment

When you have exhausted the beaches; had your fill of snorkeling and surfing lessons, and watched all the whales, be sure to take part in the Town Parties every fourth Friday of the month. Located in the Azeka Shopping Center, these events are free and open to all ages. You will be able to experience local food and vendors; live artists, music, and dancing; and even events for the children.

There are plenty of bars, comedy clubs, karaoke bars, lounges, beer gardens, live music, and dancing should you have evening energy to go out and explore!

Weather

You will enjoy this heavenly retreat year-round, with the average low temperatures not dropping below 60 and the average highs staying between 80 and 90. Kihei is on the southwest shore of Maui, which is the sunniest and driest end of the island.

Transportation

For the most freedom of travel, you will want to rent a vehicle for your stay in Kihei. There is a public bus system on Maui, consisting of thirteen bus routes, should you choose public transportation. Uber and Lyft are both available in and around Kihei, for your convenience when buses and taxis are not available.
